Dining in Varr House
If you are dining in Varr House, you will find the style of cuisine more along the lines of Nigel Slater, Antony Worrall Thompson or the beautiful Nigella, as opposed to Master Chef creations or Heston.
Both have their place in good dining but Jim’s interest lies more with cooking from scratch, good portions of local meats, game and fish from the camber docks of Old Portsmouth.
Whilst vegetarian and specific food allergies can be catered for by prior request, we regret that our small operation is unable to provide plant-based meals to the ‘homemade from scratch’ standard we aim to maintain. Likewise, with multiple allergies.
John Miller and Jim Paget have both been in the hospitality business all their working lives; working together these past 35 years.
Jim tends to concentrate on the kitchen with John front of house and as ‘mine host’.
Both enjoy looking after their guests from the well-stocked bar and their wine collection.
With catering for intimate dinners, the menus do not specifically offer vegetarian or dietary requirements but anything can be arranged with a chat or email.
